Black & White Prospectus
Form. Texture. Light. Shadow.
Black and white is photography at its purest. Take the color away and what remains is the bones of an image: the curve of a shoulder, the grain of weathered wood, a shadow falling across a wall in the late afternoon. Without color to lead the eye, we slow down. We see the world with fewer distractions and notice what we walked past the first time.
Color is the default now. Every phone captures it, and every screen expects it. Yet so many photographers still choose to work without it, and that choice speaks to its power.
We want to see how you use it. Landscape, street, portrait, experimental, conceptual: any genre, as long as it lives in black and white. Bring us your photographs.
The details
The exhibition runs 12/5 - 12/26 at Black Eyes Gallery, 485 S. Stone Avenue, Tucson, with an opening reception on 12/5 from 5-8 p.m.
The call is open to photographers 18 and over. Monochrome work of any process is welcome, including toned prints and digital conversions. Images with selective color are not eligible.

Review criteria vary by juror, but in general we're looking at creativity, originality, interpretation of the theme, and how an image works in relation to the exhibition as a whole.
Where possible, submissions are reviewed blind. Your CV and bio will most likely not factor into selection — the image is what's being judged.

It's optional, and we know some images stand on their own. But a short note on meaning or backstory often elevates a picture. Include one if it helps.
